The Zapata County
Chamber of Commerce/ Convention and Visitor's
Center is located at 601 N. U.S. Highway 83.
Every day the staff here may change hats many
times to meet the needs of each of these
important entities. The goals of these entities
are the same; the economic, social, and
environmental growth of Zapata County and its
citizen’s, as well as promotion of the area and
tourism development are just some of the daily
tasks handled at the Chamber. Another function
of the Chamber of Commerce is the Convention and
Visitor’s Center, which is funded by a portion
of the Hotel/Motel Occupancy Tax, collected each
year in Zapata County, and is awarded by the
Zapata County Commissioner’s Court to the
Chamber to be used for CVC activities. The job
of the CVC is to market and promote tourism
activity, overnight stay of visitors to Zapata
County, which also has a positive economic
impact by generating added business to other
Zapata businesses. Each year, the Chamber
through the CVC hosts a number of fishing
tournaments, outdoor recreation events,
conventions, business conferences and community
events. So as you can see, the staff of the
Zapata County Chamber of Commerce wears many,
many hats.
